Week 37: The Gate Keeper
We have been talking about our marvelous Subconscious Mind and its tremendous power and potential. But who is in charge of protecting it? The answer is simple: The Conscious Mind, she is our true GateKeeper.
Let’s start saying that what we call our mind could be divided into three different systems: the conscious mind, the subconscious mind, and the unconscious mind.
The following analogy may help to clarify the concept of how the three minds work together. Imagine your mind as a computer.
Your unconscious mind is like the hard disk drive on your computer. It is the long term storage place for all your memories and programs that have been installed since your day of birth.
Your subconscious mind is like the RAM in your computer. It is the place in a computer where programs and data that are currently in use are kept so they can be easily reached quickly by the computer processor. It is much faster than other types of memory. Any recent memories are stored in your subconscious mind for quick recall when needed. It also holds your current programs that you run every day, such as your current recurring thoughts, behavior patterns, habits, and feelings.
Your conscious mind, on the other hand, is the keyboard, monitor, and processor. Data is inputted on the keyboard and the results are thrown up on the monitor screen. That is how your conscious mind works – information is taken in via some outside (or internal) stimulus from your environment and the results are thrown up instantaneously into your consciousness. The conscious mind is your awareness at the present moment. It is the part of your mind that is responsible for logic and reasoning. If I ask you about the sum of one plus one it’s mostly your conscious mind that is going to be used to make that addition.
The conscious mind is also known to be the gatekeeper for the mind. If someone tried to present you with a belief that doesn’t match your belief system then your conscious mind will filter that belief. The same will happen when someone criticizes you or call your name.
I have to cite once again my new friend Shirley in her post of November 20th “Fat Brain” when she cites Haanel’s point 5:9:
“If either of us were building a home for ourselves, how careful we would be in regard to the plans; how we should study every detail; how we should watch the material and select only the best of everything; and yet how careless we are when it comes to building our Mental Home, which is infinitely more important than any physical home, as everything which can possibly enter into our lives depends upon the character of the material which enters into the construction of our Mental Home.”
We all have heard: “Garbage in, garbage out.” Nothing is truer!
Our Conscious Mind can control what we eat, what we watch, what we read, what we listen to. That’s why our “Mental Diet” and this MKMM Program is so important. I am finally paying special attention to everything which can possibly enter into the construction of my Mental Home and my new life.
Now I can say with absolute conviction that the journey towards wholeness and authenticity has begun!
